Group of Columbia Theological Seminary Students and Professor Visit Debrecen

It is already for the 21th time that a travelling seminar group of the Columbia Theological Seminary (Decatur, GA, USA) visited the Debrecen Reformed Theological Seminary, on 15 january, 2010. The group of second-year master’s students were led byRodger Nishioka PhD, Associate Professor for Christian Education and by The Revd. Zoltán Bóna PhD, General Secretary of the Ecumenical Council of Churches in Hungary, who are co-teaching this course.

The seminar session took place with participation of Debrecen students and academic staff. After two short introductory lectures, the theme „Secularisation and Fundamentalism as Challanges for the Christian Churches in the US and in Hungary” was discussed in detail, which was continued in an informal way over a lunch together in the caferia of the College. The group was welcomed by Előd Hodossy-Takács PhD, Associate Professor for Biblical Theology and History of Religion, vice-rector of the University, who gave the group a guided tour in the Debrecen Reformed College with a thorough introduction to itshistory and present life. The American guests visited the Reformed Great Church in the city centre of Debrecen and were given a reception by The Rt. Revd. Bishop Gusztáv Bölcskei as well.
